Video Glitch Playing 1080p Files

Post by Dan904 »

So I've been having a problem with some of my 1080p files playing on my Sony NSZ-GS7. When ever I play certain files this glitching appears at the top of my screen. I am using aVia to play the files and es explorer to select them from my file server, also played on Plex with same result. I have played each file on my desktop and confirmed the artifacts are not in the video itself.

Here are some of the codec settings for a few of the videos I'm having issues with. The common factor seems to be x264.

Fifth Element
*Encoded/Profile/Level.....: 2 pass/High/Level 4.1
*Type/Codec/Writing Library: MPEG-4 AVC/H264/x264
*Container.................: Mkv
*File Size.................: 4.37 GB
*Bit Rate..................: 4210 Kbps

Johnny Mnemonic
Container - Mpeg4
Video Codec - x264
Bit Rate - VBR 2,250kb/s

Moneyball
Format : MPEG-4 at 1 734 Kbps
Length : 1.61 GiB for 2h 13mn 15s 72ms
Video #0 : AVC at 1 619 Kbps

Sneakers
CONTAINER....................: MP4
FORMAT.......................: X264
FILE SIZE....................: 2.11 GB
BITRATE MODE.................: Variable
AVG. VIDEO BITRATE...........: 2250kbps

I really didn't know where else to post this, but I figured maybe some of you guys might have had this problem before.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had the worst issue with some videos played directly on my GS7.
I recorded my own desktop with an unplayable lossless codec, and then I converted them to a "working" one.
The converted AVI videos ran fine on the pc,but had completely wrong colors on my GS7.
I came across any video converter, and I converted my original AVI videos to AVI in x264 with it.
Much to my delight, the converted videos from any video converter ran properly on my GS7.

Try converting one of your problem videos with "any video converter" with the matching settings of the original video, and then try playing it.

I fixed my videos with any video converter with an extremely minimal quality loss.
Convert to either the original format,or to AVI.

Set the codec to x264 (works on my GS7) and use the highest quality settings.
Then set all fields to match the bitrates of video and audio to the original video.
Make sure the audio format matches the original video's for the best results.
Converting will take a long time since your videos are gigs in size.
The resulting file can be smaller than your original video.

If the converted video works properly, you can do the same with other problematic videos.

I have had the exact same issue with some files using PLEX, "9" 1080p DTS and another I can not remember right now that was also 1080 p DTS. After the last Sony/Google TV update it has seemed to clear that problem on "9" when I checked it but I only did a quick check so not 100% it was fixed

Now that you mention DTS, I remember seeing many of the problem files having it. Would a certain sound format be causing this? Also I'm on Version 0.9.8.10 for PLEX.

Wow, I can't believe I never thought of converting the files and I'm even in the movie industry. lol. Thanks, I'll look in to an automated way to do this. I really don't want to have to do this one by one.
