Beginner DLNA question

Post by mcnamara »

Hello,

I am quite new to all DLNA and Revue stuff and have a question regarding supported formats.

As far as I know out of the box Revue does not support all video formats. If I have DLNA server installed on Windows 7 and I have a file in a format not supported by Revue but which can be played on Windows 7 will the DLNA server be able to stream it to the TV?

Thanks.

No, the box "displaying" the video has to be able to display the format, not the box serving or hosting it. You can have transcoders on the hosting box that can convert the file "as it streams" to a format the displaying box can display but that can be a pain as well and not all formats transcode well on the fly.

Your Windows DLNA server just sends the file as a data stream.....so the Revue has to have the ability to display that file type.

Thanks for the reply.

Are there any plans for Revue adding support for mkv or m2ts formats?
