Reading video stream to LCD

Hey folks,

I've rooted my LG47 G3 device and been playing around a bit. I'm pretty happy playing with the regular droid stuff but I have a requirement to be able to grab frames from the video stream but the adb screenshot methods don't seem to work (Operation not permitted). Has anyone managed to snapshot the screen or found out which /dev/ device it can be read from ? /dev/fb0 shows some data when the OSD is active but I believe the framebuffers are just used for layering content rather than the video itself.

The reason behind this is that I'm trying to integrate the Lightpack for retrofit ambilight behaviour just for fun... works great from my XBMC PC and I can run it with standalone lighting on the TV itself too. Just can't extract the video frames to get active behaviour.

Any pointers would be great

Tris.
