To update or not to update?

Hi all,
Just got my first gTV, really enjoying the sony box, wish I had root for more web content streaming options. In the meantime, should I keep this box update or no? I am hoping that a root exploit will come out some time in the future, I am unsure if updating will possibly hamper any chances at gaining root in the future? Thoughts, suggestions?
