Make sure you have a slash at the end.
I've tried this as well, to no avail. I'll see if I can access some non-protected SMB shares later today.

What version of GTVBox you are using now?

Latest in the Android store - should be 0.2.

Hmm. Interesting... I am sure it works on Logitech Revue and I have reports it working on Sony Blu-ray.
Maybe Sony TV has something that blocks multicast (which is required for Apple's bonjour service)...
Could you collect some logs with Logcat Sender?

I'll see what I can do. Don't have much know-how with this thing or Android in general. I'll PM with any questions on how to do that.

Only wifi so far. Don't have a long Ethernet cable cut but I can try that a bit later.

EDIT: wired doesn't do any better. With both connections I'm able to browse the server for a brief window of time - seconds, really - but beyond that period all I get is "resource cannot be displayed" messages, even in directories I was just able to see and navigate.

Next up is a non-protected share.

Well [stuff], now I have a different problem. I tried the smb://user:pass@server and now I can freely browse the network shares! However, any video I try to play just gives the spinning wheel infinitely. Never starts playback, HD or SD. mkv and avi files. mp3s don't work either.

Still haven't tried unprotected share yet, but that's next.

EDIT: both protected and unprotected shares behave the same - browsing works, but no playback.

Did you completely removed all usernames/passwords from all fields in share setting when testing non-protected?

My mistake - no. In my excitement over progress I neglected to realize I still needed login creds for my local computer share. I opened permissions on the share for full access for all users, but if I try to connect with no creds it gives me an authentication error.
