I'm hoping someone can shed some light on the problem I'm having, this app looks great but I'm having trouble viewing my shares.
I am able to connect to one of my Win7 x64 computers but my main media server which also runs Win7 x64 gets an error message stating "the resource can not be displayed" when I attempt to view the newly created SMB. I have played around with various settings, and the share is currently working fine with two XBMC clients and my new gaming box. GTVbox does detect the shared computer, but it won't show me the shared files.
Now I have also found throughout testing that the other connection that was previously working find also gives me this error message and seems to be working intermittently.
Thanks!
EDIT: Somehow I seem to have it working now, but it doesn't seem to allow me to point directly to a shared folder like I would prefer... ex: smb://darthvader/video
Can anyone shed some light on the SMB share requirements. Does the server need to be running 128-bit encryption, can the server be password protected, etc?

Re: Video player with audio switching (GTVBox Video Player)
I used this GTVBox player for 2 days on Revue(3.1) and it works great so far.
I have 2 wish list..
1. Subtitle size : it's too big for me. If there is option for font size(or 2~3 choice), it'll be perfect.
2. SMB config : As barndogusn mentioned, it's better to have direct point for shared folder or start folder location in config.

Re: Video player with audio switching (GTVBox Video Player)
I fully realize this may make me sound like a complete idiot, but I'm just at at a loss here. I'm having two problems here:
1) AirPlay doesn't work at all. Neither my iPhone nor my iPad will recognize my GTV as an AirPlay device, even when GTVbox is open.
2) smb browsing just doesn't work. Constant "resource could not be displayed" errors or just hangs when trying to access the smb share. The share is on a computer running several VMs, and is on a domain and requires a username/password.
Has anyone come across either of these problems and figure out how to solve them?

Regarding SMB problems:
1. I always recommend first do not use any encryption and password protection of your share. When it works, try to add login/passwords.
2. It should be possible to add start path directly into smb:// field after hostname. (I'll double check this however)

Are you sure your GTV device, iPhone and Windows PC are in the same LAN (all have similar IP addresses like 192.168.x.x) ?ELItheICEman wrote: 1) AirPlay doesn't work at all. Neither my iPhone nor my iPad will recognize my GTV as an AirPlay device, even when GTVbox is open.

Re: Video player with audio switching (GTVBox Video Player)
I bought the app on the market and there was some difference in the interface (for the better).mcd2000 wrote:Hi!tidhar.mor wrote:Hi,
This application is great, just what I needed to actually be able to use my Revue since I haven't been able to play almost any video file from my local collection using either the built in logitech media player or Plex.
I'm currently running the free version from the dropbox folder, but plan to buy the app from the market (as soon as my kids finish watching the movie)
Is the free version updated to the latest version as the market or is there a difference?
Is it possible to define this application somehow to be used by Plex for playing videos?
When Plex uses Direct Play does it actually try to open the video in the Logitech Media Player?
I would love to use the Plex interface with this player's playback capabilities (as I said before, Plex can't actually play anything on my Revue).
Thanks,
Tidhar
Version on Dropbox is updated day or two after Android Market version (if I find a serious bug, I can quickly post update to Market). You can go to Options->About app and compare version number with one on the Android Market web page.
Plex doesn't use Logitech Media Player. It just uses default MediaPlayer control from Android OS.
My player also uses MediaPlayer control but with some features specific to GoogleTV platform (like audio track switching) and my own improvements (like subtitles).
As I know, Plex do not allow you to use any external player for playback.
I wonder why Plex is not able to play files which GTVBox plays fine. Technically, playback process is almost the same.
It would be nice if you could display thumbnails of the video files, or even better, display cover image from internet like on other Media Centers (like Plex).
About the playback, it's strange that Plex fails to play if it's the same process.
I tried playing with the options in Plex, but nothing helped.
The built in Logitech Media Player also fails to play most videos, so I wonder if it's related.
Regarding the SMB share problems people are posting about, I also had some problems accessing my shares until I changed
the server IP Address to include the user name and password instead of entering it separately in the appropriate fields. (smb://username:password@server)

Re: Video player with audio switching (GTVBox Video Player)
I've made experiments with thumbnail generation on GTV devices. It is still buggy.tidhar.mor wrote: It would be nice if you could display thumbnails of the video files, or even better, display cover image from internet like on other Media Centers (like Plex).
I am looking for a PC software to pre-generate metadata (covers and storylines).
I am thinking about YAMJ (http://code.google.com/p/moviejukebox/) from NMT project. It is free, cross-platform and has tons of scraper plugins. But... It is not very trivial in usage...
Also, It is written in Java, so It can be (in theory) integrated directly into Android app in future.

I've doublechecked: you can bookmark SMB subdirectory like: smb://ADDRESS/DIRECTORY/
Make sure you have a slash at the end.

I'm sure they're all on the same LAN - I've even done some network probing and can see the AppleTV2 on the network and its AirPlay service running. No such service for the GTV.mcd2000 wrote:Are you sure your GTV device, iPhone and Windows PC are in the same LAN (all have similar IP addresses like 192.168.x.x) ?ELItheICEman wrote: 1) AirPlay doesn't work at all.
