I didn't think realtime unpacking of video from rars would require much processing power. As my old pc can do that while it cannot even play 720p files. So if something that is powerful enough to play 1080p files should have enough power to unpack a video in real time. Those were my thoughts at least.
I wasn't asking for it to save space. I was asking because fat32 can only support 4gb files, while many HD files are much larger than 4gb, but can be split into many rar files getting around the 4gb limitation for video files.
Shuffle playback, is not all that important I guess. Just sometimes I like to load up a whole series of a show and watch random episodes. That's what I use shuffle for, I was just suggesting some new features.
Anyways thanks for making this great app, I can't wait to get my tv so I can give it a try. Sounds like you've done a great job.

1) Headers are shown on the top and I do not see any option to move them to the left. Is there a way to bring it to left as shown in the Market screen shots?
2) Please enable the embedded subtitles from MKV files.
3) Can you provide an option to select subtitles if multiple language files are placed in the directory?
4) Is it possible to implement the thumbnail view of files and folders?
5) Please provide the ability to resume video playback
Other than that, I am playing files from SMB server and I really like the way it is implemented.
Great you are here. This stupid Android Market don't allow developer to respond to reviews.
1) This is the difference between my Beta firmware and your release. Google changed actionbar look. I didn't expect it to happen that way. In the next version tabs will be at the left side with icons on all firmwares. More like TV&Movies app. (By the way, can you post some screenshot?)
2) It is the main thing I am working on now (not very easy, as it requires parsing MKV in Java which is not very efficient).
3) I don't know any standard naming for this. I mean how to name subtitle files to be recognized? Maybe it is better to support online subtitles from opensubtitles.org..
4) Basicly, yes. Please, scroll some posts up for explanation.
5) I am working on this since your post in the Market.

1) Here are the screenshots. I can't take it directly on TV.

http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Ny_Eu ... 174312.jpg
2)Thanks
3) Yes online subtitles is even better. Please implement that. Usually subtitle files are named in the following format. <moviename>_<EN>.srt
4) You mean using the Movenizer? But how does the thumbnail view show up in the GTVBOX on Google TV?
Also, there are issues with the playback of some mkv files with the Nov 27th update. The same files were working in Nov 18 version. So, I reverted to Nov 18 version, the file works fine.

Can you explain, what exactly happens? Does it simple hang on buffering or the app quits? Are you playing it over smb? I will appreciate if you install the latest version again and send me logs (with LogcatSender for ex).
Interface on your screenshots is awful.

As soon as I get release update for my Revue, I'll fix it.

Bad news for Logitech users.
Honeycomb release limits the number of supported video formats. Like UserDebug.
No MPEG2 codec anymore. And no MPEG2TS and VOB container supports.
Also DTS still not supported.
GTVBox update is ready fixing interface design.

Do you mean that the official stable update supports less format than the first beta leak? Well, this gives me a reason not to update, just hope logitech won't forced it on my revue.

Yes. Funny, yeah?
There are good news. Official update supports Http Live Streaming. So, Airplay feature is almost full functional.

i wonder if the professionals at the gtvhacker team could forward-port the drivers for the video formats. seems like if it was in the 1st beta... and if the user debug is root... it could be incorporated somehow. but i'm not one of the professionals and this would probably be much harder than it sounds.

A manager from Logitech responded on Logitech forums:

"
Do you know what the licensing costs are for DTS per box - it would represent a large % of the overall price of a Revue. I am sure we'd love to support more formats but a business decision was made to not support formats such as DTS and MPEG2.

Hi,
This application is great, just what I needed to actually be able to use my Revue since I haven't been able to play almost any video file from my local collection using either the built in logitech media player or Plex.
I'm currently running the free version from the dropbox folder, but plan to buy the app from the market (as soon as my kids finish watching the movie

)
Is the free version updated to the latest version as the market or is there a difference?
Is it possible to define this application somehow to be used by Plex for playing videos?
When Plex uses Direct Play does it actually try to open the video in the Logitech Media Player?
I would love to use the Plex interface with this player's playback capabilities (as I said before, Plex can't actually play anything on my Revue).
Thanks,
Tidhar

Hi!
Version on Dropbox is updated day or two after Android Market version (if I find a serious bug, I can quickly post update to Market). You can go to Options->About app and compare version number with one on the Android Market web page.
Plex doesn't use Logitech Media Player. It just uses default MediaPlayer control from Android OS.
My player also uses MediaPlayer control but with some features specific to GoogleTV platform (like audio track switching) and my own improvements (like subtitles).
As I know, Plex do not allow you to use any external player for playback.
I wonder why Plex is not able to play files which GTVBox plays fine. Technically, playback process is almost the same.
