newbie and need help downloading files

i have a google tv and want to download a satellite tv file so i can watch tv channels from around the world. unfortunately the tv gives me a "cannot open file" message when i hit the download. sony support told me i cannot download these types of files (or even modzilla firefox). anyone have suggestions or is carlos from sony correct? many thanks
