Anybody tried the UART?

Post by araner »

Hello All,
Despite my Pulse deciding to automatically update (and losing root in the process) there still appears to be much to work with in terms of hacking the Pulse. I'm referring to the UART header documented on the GTV Hacker Wiki- http://gtvhacker.com/index.php/Hisense_ ... ART_Pinout

I have yet to try it with my 3.3v UART/TTL Adapter because the pinout is too big for a standard serial adapter such as one might use with an Arduino. However, I did manage to get it to fit a four-pin JST connector. The question now is where I should connect the other side to?
One thought was to use it to interface directly (or through an adapter) to the UART on a Raspberry Pi.
See Linked Image for a photo of my set-up-

I've been using a Raspberry Pi as a back-up media center to the Google TV ever since the bad old days of the Logitech Revue. No matter what I tried with the Revue, the end result was always that I would have 3 seperate remotes, at the very least. One for the TV, one for the Pi and one for the GTV. The ideal would be to connect the Pi to the GTV and access XBMC from as a seperate drive on the GTV menu or vice versa for that matter.
I know I've seen someboy pair a Raspberry Pi to a GTV as a remote-http://hackaday.com/2012/11/01/controll ... d-devices/ perhaps we can use the Pulse remote to control the RPi and the RPi to control the Pulse?

Any Other ideas of how to use the UART?

I'm looking at doing this to acquire root after my devices updated. Does this work?
