I have this box more than a year and I guess this is time to play with it. I found we can root it. Just need to know what you would recommend if I want to change the OS? Chrome OS maybe? something with better apps and more fun.

how about Ubuntu?

Minimum system requirements for Xubuntu would fall roughly between Ubuntu Server and Desktop:
512 MiB of system memory (RAM)
5 GB of disk space.
Graphics card and monitor capable of 800x600 resolution.
