Spotify on Logitech Revue

Post by thecompyoda »

I've been searching for weeks to get Spotify on the Revue. Plex would be a great option for me IF the dev for the Plex spotify plugin would get it working for a windows media server. Since that is not the case, I decided to use Twonky Media Server+Spotify+DSPlugin running on Windows 7 X64.

Sorry about the time on this.

Here is what I did to get this working using a Windows 7 Ultimate x64. If you need help trying to figure this out with any other OS, Post it back in the forum.

What you need:

1. TwonkyMediaServer. There are many versions of TwonkyServer. I have successfully done this on both my Ubuntu Workstation box, as well as a modded My World Book Pro network shared drive running a stripped down version of Linux. You can get Twonky from http://www.twonky.com/products/twonkywi ... loads.aspx No need to get anything other than "TwonkyServer" from these guys. RTFM on this one, default install will work fine for getting Spotify on your Revue, or any other UPNP enabled device on your home network. http://twonky.com/upfiles/TwonkyServerI ... -v6-EN.pdf

2. dsbridge. Download this to your computer, anywhere you want, just don't forget where you put it, you will need to copy the files in this zip to a directory on your computer. http://code.google.com/p/dsbridge/

3. lame_enc.dll Download this to your computer, in the same location you put dsbridge.
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-f ... l?lame_enc click the "download zip" button at the bottom of this page

3. Spotify. I have this working on the newest version at this time 0.8.1.32.g93407e5e https://www.spotify.com/us/download/windows/

4. M3U Playlist:

Code: Select all

#EXTM3U#EXTINF:-1,SPOTIFY
http://{YOUR LAN IP HERE}:8124
Any time your computer changes IP's you will have to change the ip in this file.
Create this in Notepad, and save it in a Folder with nothing else in it..NOT YOUR DESKTOP. I put mine at C:\Spotify\Spotify.m3u

Setup:

TwonkyServer-
1. Go to TwonkyServer web-admin: http://localhost:9000/Config
2. Click on Sharing under Basic Setup on the left side of your window.
3. Add A content location for the folder you created that is holding your .m3u file (C:\Spotify\)
4. Make sure the checkbox to the left of your location is checked, and change your dropdown to the right of that location to Music-Only
5. Click Save Changes

DSBridge and Lame_enc.dll
1. extract both zip files (dsbridge, and lame_enc).
2. copy all files from dsbridge\bin to C:\Users\{YOUR_NAME}\AppData\Roaming\Spotify (dsbridge.ini & dsound.dll)
3. copy lame_enc.dll from lame_enc zip to C:\Users\{YOUR_NAME}\AppData\Roaming\Spotify

Note: There are multiple places these files MIGHT need to be copied to, it all depends on your system. Post back if you can't get this to work. It's the most annoying part to all of this.

That is the end of the Setup.

Once you have dsbridge and lam_enc in the right spot, Open Spotify then start playing music--IMPORTANT!, you will see a Blue Circle show up in your taskbar, arrow over it and it should show you http://localhost:8124. If you see this, its time to test it. If not, post back.

On your Revue, open Chrome browser and go to http://{YOUR_PC_IP_ADDRESS}:9000/resources/remote/remoteaccess.html
If you see a plugin error, just hit ok. I'm able to go right past this with no problems. I'm going to release a patch for TwonkyServer which will fix this for Chrome browser.

You should see a Twonky player interface open up. on the left of your screen there is a Playlists button, some people might not be able to see it, just know that it is definitely there. I had to mouse over Personal rating and then slightly drag my mouse below that until i got an arrow...click..and there is my Playlists. Pain, I know!

Double click on your Playlist name in the center of your screen, then double click on the URL that you put into your .m3u file, if music stops playing on your computer, and starts playing on your Revue, you're good to go!

Control Whats playing on your Revue using Spotify on your Computer. I have also setup a spotify remote controller that has a client for my Android phone, I use my phone to change whats playing on my computer with my Phone, which in turns plays on my Revue.

I'm sorry for not having any screen shots. I had to throw this walkthrough together as quickly as possible. Deadline at work is still killing me.

Setup the Revue API trigger to run a workflow which integrates with the Spotify API. Pipedream's integration platform allows you to integrate Revue and Spotify remarkably fast. Free for developers.
