syncing gmail content like calendar and contacts

When you go to the settings and the accounts and sync your gmail account that you have synced with the GTV shows up. but its not syncing anything. I downloaded google music and connected my gmail account to it and then it showed that my gmail account is syncing with music beta. Is there any way to have my account sync with other stuff like my contacts or my calendar? Because I downloaded a calendar app that works but my gmail account wont sync with the calendar to show any events.
