Alarm.com ADC-V520IR camera kernel hacking

I found on the web some information that came from this site to hack the ADC V520IR camera kernel to allow full access to the camera so I may repurpose it without having to sign up with ADC.
I purchased an FTDI to usb adapter, now I need to find what software to use to work with it. I am not a programmer and I can follow instructions .I haven't found any easy to use software or know exactly what I need to do this with. I have made the cable and connected the pins to do this but am stuck at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
