Still Hopeful
I going out today to buy a Sony NSZ-GT1. Are they all coming with the newest firmware update or is it still possible to have the old firmware and still be able to root it.

I think you have a good chance of getting one with an older firmware as these aren't exactly flying of the shelves and so I think there is probably old stock out there. I recently saw them on clearance at HHgregg, but the price was still ridiculously high. The next hurdle is to see if it forces you go through the OTA update process before it allows you to use it.

not true, when the GTVHacker released the 3.2 exploit...these things were $200 new on newegg, tigerdirect .Now they are 250-300 and most of them are on ebay. Grab one while you still can

Bought mine yesterday at BestBuy for $280 and it came with a build from 2010.
