OTA Update
Has it been confirmed that the recent OTA update blocked the exploit allowing root access? I dragged my feet and am wondering if I'm out of luck now.

Re: OTA Update
Just found this thread:

Apparently I'm out of luck.
I suppose I could always pick up a new unit, root it, and return my old one with the complaint that it does not function as I envisioned...

Re: OTA Update
As long as you did not install the recent update, then you should still be able to run the exploit. If you did update, however, you are out of luck.

Re: OTA Update
Yeah the update that fixes the 'exploit' will auto update as reported by several people. Best bet if you want to root is to sell and buy a new box.failurbydesign wrote:F!!!!! Do these boxes Auto update???? I have the update but don't remember installing it..

Re: OTA Update
But the question then is what happens if the new box is on some version of the firmware prior to the "rootable" version. According to the GTVhacker instructions, you must be on the firmware version which was just replaced. If I were to buy a box from a store or eBay that hasn't been updated from 2.X, there is no way to get to the "rootable" version to do the hack. Or am I wrong about this?

That page is blank when I go to it. No downloads show up.
