Yes this happened to me. The first was right after I had added the Pulse Script, but before changing the User Settings on Chrome. Score one for Ubuntu! In the end I ended up downloading the adb-only program http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/sdk/adb.zip to my home folder on Ubuntu and from there the CLI was a breeze!
